Can I be honest with you?
There was a time not too long ago when I used to wake up and feel… drained before the day even started. I’d open my eyes, glance around at the laundry piles, remember the homeschool lessons waiting for us, think about the dishes, and feel that heavy “here we go again” sigh rise up in my chest.
It was like living on autopilot, just going through the motions and feeling stuck in the same loop every day.
But God.
He has this gentle, beautiful way of shifting our hearts when we give Him the space to. One morning, in the middle of my usual tired thoughts, I felt this tiny whisper:
“What if you changed the way you look at it?”
Gratitude Changed Everything
It started small. Instead of waking up with that sense of dread, I began whispering:
“Thank You, Lord, for another day to serve.”
“Thank You for this home, these babies, this ordinary routine that holds so much purpose.”
Suddenly, the repetition of the everyday didn’t feel like a trap—it felt like a gift.
Because truthfully? Getting to wake up and do the same thing every day means I have people to serve. A family to love. A home to take care of. A life that’s rooted in the everyday blessings I once prayed for.
Your Thoughts Shape Your Day
I’ve learned that the thoughts we start our mornings with have a big impact. When I used to begin the day saying, “I’m so tired, I can’t do this,” I carried that low energy with me all day long. But now that I start with gratitude and with God at the center, my whole mindset shifts.
Do I still get tired? Of course.
Do things still get messy and loud and overwhelming? Yep.
But the difference is my attitude. I’m not living in defeat anymore—I’m walking in purpose, even through the repetition.
How You Start Matters
So, here’s my gentle encouragement to you, sweet friend:
Start your day with God.
Start your day with thankfulness.
Start your day on purpose, even if the only thing on your calendar is folding laundry and making peanut butter sandwiches.
Because what the world sees as “mundane,” God sees as ministry.
And when you change your mindset to match His, you begin to feel that peace, that joy, that “happy energy” that carries you through even the hardest days.
A Simple Morning Shift
Here’s what’s been helping me:
- A quick prayer before I even get out of bed: “Thank You, Lord, for this day.”
- Playing worship music while I make breakfast.
- Opening my Bible or reading a short devotional before diving into the day.
- Reminding myself: “This is service. This is worship. This is good.”
Your everyday life is meaningful.
Your faithfulness in the small things matters.
And your mindset—your choice to greet the day with gratitude—can transform your heart.
