I have always worked. I have always enjoyed working. I have only had a handful of jobs, but I have spent years at most all of them. My most recent and longest holding job was as a bank teller for 8 years. I genuinely loved my job. Which was helpful seeing as how I was a single mother and the only person bringing in any income. As a mother, I always knew it was my responsibility to make sure my kids have always been taken care of. And by the grace of God, they have.
But something changed in me when I met my fiancé and began to build a life that allowed me to dream a little differently. Suddenly, the idea of being home with my kids didn’t feel so impossible anymore—it felt like a calling.
Transitioning from working full-time to staying at home wasn’t easy. It came with sacrifices, lifestyle changes, and a lot of adjusting. But what I’ve gained in return is something I wouldn’t trade for anything. I get to be there for every sleepy-eyed morning, every midday meltdown, every giggle-filled lunch, and every quiet bedtime prayer.
I’ve discovered a deeper purpose in the everyday moments—folding laundry while listening to the kids play, teaching math at the kitchen table, or baking muffins just because we can. It’s not glamorous, but it’s real. And it’s mine.
Being a stay-at-home mama doesn’t mean I stopped working—it just means my work looks different now. I still hustle, create, and provide, but I do it in a way that keeps me close to the little hearts that call me “Mama.”
It’s a blessing I don’t take for granted. I know not everyone is called to stay home, and not everyone who wants to can. But for me, this season of life has become a sacred one. And I’m so thankful for it.
If you’re a stay-at-home mama too—or dreaming of becoming one—I’d love to hear your story. Let’s encourage each other in this journey. Drop a comment, or connect with me on Pinterest or Instagram. We’re in this together, one cozy day at a time.
