I am a cozy gamer. I am a side quest girl. I love open world map games and games that I can literally just do whatever I want. Some of my favorite games include Animal Crossing, Breath of the Wild, Mario games, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy, and Stardew Valley is at the top of my wish list. You get the picture.
But recently, I rediscovered something from my childhood that I honestly didn’t expect to fall in love with again: Neopets.
I played Neopets all the time when I was younger. It was one of my favorite after-school routines—checking on my pets, collecting Neopoints, decorating my Neohome. I still remember the silly Flash games and random events, and how exciting it was to get a rare item in the shop. I kind of assumed it was gone with the rest of my dial-up memories, but it’s not. It’s still around—and actually going through a bit of a revival.
And let me just say: I am completely hooked all over again.
Playing it now, as an adult, brings a whole new kind of joy. It’s still playful and simple, but somehow even more fun now that I can fully appreciate how much creativity and detail was poured into it. And here’s what’s really cool—a lot of the current Neopets players are actually from my generation. Fellow 90s and early 2000s kids, logging back in for a dose of comfort and nostalgia.
The Neopets world is still whimsical and weird in the best way. You can build your own shop, customize your pets, earn trophies, explore secret places, and even get into the stock market if that’s your thing. It’s light, fun, and the perfect little corner of the internet to relax in when the day gets hectic.
And I love that I don’t have to commit hours at a time. I can log on in the morning with my coffee, check a few things, maybe do a quest or spin the Wheel of Excitement, and then get back to my day. It’s just easy. And it feels like home.
If you grew up playing Neopets, I definitely recommend giving it another go. You might be surprised how much joy it still brings. And if you’ve never played—now is the perfect time to try. It’s still free, still fun, and still full of magic.
